The Mighty One, God, the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets. From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth. Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages. He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people: “Gather to me this consecrated people,    who made a covenant with me by sacrifice.”  And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for he is a God of justice.

Prayer of Approach

Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may love you better and more worthily magnify your holy name through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

 

Invitation to Confession     

~  Isaiah 64:6; Proverbs 28:13

All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a dry leaf, and like a leaf in the wind our sins sweep us away. He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

Prayer of Common Confession

[ALL Pray this prayer aloud.]

Heavenly Father, you have bridged heaven and earth in your Son, bringing the joy of heaven to us. Yet, how easily we forget! Forgive us for wanting only your benefits and not you. Forgive us for seeking our joy outside of you – in people, accomplishments, or experiences. Forgive us for using others, for trying to squeeze life out of them, rather than bringing them life as we serve them in love. Have mercy on us and restore to us the joy of our salvation – the joy of forgiveness, the delight of knowing you, the hope of a renewed world. Give us glimpses of the day when our joy will be made complete, so that we may be strengthened to joyfully serve you, and our neighbor, until you make all things new. Amen.

Silent Confession of Personal Sin & Brokenness

Father of Mercies, I make so many mistakes; I turn away from you so often. I need you so much. Thank you that you so loved the world that you sent Jesus to die on the cross to save us from our sins. Amen.

Prayers for God’s Protection, Provision, and Guidance

[Spend a season in prayer as a group. One person should lead into and end the season of prayer. You may choose to have one person lead through all of the petitions; or you may divide the petitions up for different people to lead. But after each petition allow time for any to pray as the Spirit leads:]

Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints.”  ~ Ephesians 6:18

Almighty and loving God, Our prayers are to you. At an acceptable time, O Lord, in the abundance of your steadfast love, answer us. We pray for:

  • Healing for the sick & Peace for those waiting as loved ones suffer
  • Comfort for those who have lost loved ones
  • Endurance and strength for medical professionals laboring to save lives
  • Wisdom, discernment, humility, and unity for leaders (government, medical, church)
  • Provision for those experiencing and/or facing unemployment and financial loss
  • Protection for families – especially in those homes where home isn’t a safe place
  • Relief for those struggling with anxiety, depression, aggravated by isolation
  • God to work out his purpose, and bring glory to His own Name
